An IP address (Internet Protocol Address) is a unique string of numbers that identifies a computer or server on the Internet, similiar to a telephone number. Each IP address is unique and identifies the machine it is associated with.
What format is an IP Address?
IP addresses, together with domain addresses are the two forms of Internet addresses in common use. IP addresses consist of four numbers between 0 and 255, separated by dots. An example would be 244.233.222.211
If I use a proxy server does my IP address show?
If you use a proxy server then the above IP address shown will be that of the proxy and not yours.
What is the difference between a dynamic and a static IP address?
A static IP address is always the same. Each time you access this page it will show the same address at the top. A dynamic IP changes frequently. Dynamic IP addresses are used mostly by dial up Internet providers, although some cable and DSL systems also assign dynamic IP addresses.
